- Yep! Its Time! Beautiful Trees, Big Rocks and Crystal Clear
Lakes. SLO 4-Wheelers annual Coyote Lake Run!
- Vehicle and Driving Skill, Challenge, and Fabulous camping
by the High Sierras Coyote Lake!.
Kings River and Pineridge Ranger District, Shaver Lake. 2.5
Hours from Fresno, Some people do it in an hour, others in 6 hours.
The trail is rough, avg. time 4-6 hrs to end. Primitive camp,
Absolutely beautiful camp by the Lake at the end of the trail.
We'll be spending the weekend enjoying the fishing, canoeing,
& trees. Dry camp, bring drinking water, Mosquito spray, there
are outhouses, bring T.P. Group evening campfire.
- All the BEAUTY you can imagine, but at a price! That's right
there is a catch. These trails are not for the faint at heart.
If you fear body damage don't go. There is about 50% chance of
getting body damage in a 67" body width or less 4WD
and a 80% chance in a 77" body width or less 4WD. Its not
the roughest trail, but be prepared.
- You will need extra parts for when you break down and/or a
buddy system. Please make every effort to prepare your vehicle
for severe duty. Either fix at home or you will be fixing it on
the trail and that is not fun at all, see your SLO 4-Wheelers safety check list)
.
- This will be a buffet style run, Some will be going as early
as Thursday some Fri. , some on Saturday. Tag up with someone.
On the return trip Most will be leaving Coyote Lake Sunday for
home With a few staying till Monday. Attend the August general
meeting for info/input and departure times. Jim Z has offered
to let stay at family property in Shaver. for those leaving in
the evening, you can stop over and start trail in morning Contact
Jim.. Some will drive to trail head. .
- The trail is in two legs, the first half you end up at Red
Lake, Second half to Coyote is where the fun starts. If your having
problems with your rig ,stop at Red Lake, there are some nice
campsites and great fishing. The trail from Red to Coyote will
break Band-Aids. Its about a 30 min. walk from Red to Coyote.
Any one breaking down, we will try to get you to Red Lake. You
are responsible for Your BUDDY, but we will insure that everyone
is off the trail by Sunday.
- This is a great fun run - take it slow and enjoy the weekend!

- Times set so far. NOTE: There is NO GAS in Shaver Lake. Top
off In Prather. Last Gas at top of 4-Lane before Shaver Lake.
- Each group to hold a safety drivers meeting before starting.
The trail head of Red Lake/ (hwy168 and 8S10, between Shaver &
Huntington Lakes). Once on the trail, next stop will be Red Lake
for lunch. From the Trail Head to Red Lake it is @ 2 miles and
will probably take a couple of hours. If everything goes smooth,
should be in Coyote Lake by 3pm. Fishing and Hiking will be a
nice way to end the day. Tentative departures from
Paso Robles. We'll put departure times in next months newsletter.
- Thursday Caravan: Aug. 10th: Leave Ray M's. home 6:00
PM.
- Friday Caravan, Aug. 11th:To be Determined. Most will
be heading out Friday from the coast, Staying the night at Jims
or trial head and doing the trial Sat,
- Sat Morning Aug. 12 Departure ??? Though most will
drive the trial in Sat-There may be a few who will be driving
up from the coast.Usual departure at trail head Sat morning is
about 9:00.
- Sunday August 13th Most will be leaving by noon to
head back to civilization.
- Monday August 14th remainder of the folks returning
home and ensure every body is off the trail
