After 2 years of a passionate love-hate relationship with a red '86 CJ7, we decided to buy a vehicle without a carburetor. Feeling the need to "Sponsor a Starving Car Dealer" we bought our new XJ last December from Ted Miles, here in Atascadero, California.
Will designed and had Peterson's welding build 2 inch by 4 inch rocker guard skids. He installed a set of 4 1/2 inch "National" springs in the rear and a set of 4 1/2 inch "Rubicon" coils in front with the help of Mike H. at Central Coast Motorsports. We've added Commanche shackles in the rear for a total rear lift of 5" and 3/4" poly spacers in the front for a total lift of5 1/2". The Cherokee runs rancho 9000's and rides much better than stock. Driveline vibration which is problematic with this much lift, was remedied with a combination of Yankee ingenuity, Currie C.V. yoke and a C.V. driveshaft from Tom W. at "Six States". 31 inch B.F.G. mud terrain's put the XJ in motion through a trac-loc (rear) and an ARB equipped Dana 30 in front. Oh yes and weve installed a Tomken rear reciever bumper (which is often attached to our Trailblazer Camping Trailer).
Final Touches will be a Ramsey 6000 rep, and when available (Jan 99) the new "No Spin" locker from Powertrax for the corporate 8 inch rear differential. We may also put a set of 4 to 1 planetary gears in the NP 231 transfer case when they start building quiet ones.
Meanwhile we LOVE the air conditioning, cruise control, no locking hubs, fuel injection, automatic transmission, the ride and comfort and
